Nov 22, 2021
Is Your Ego Hurting Your Leadership Skills?
Our guest for today, Christie Garcia, tells us that ego is just our unconscious brain. Christie is the Founder of Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. They help individuals and teams master the unconscious behaviors that limit leadership potential.
In This Episode You Will Learn About:
- What exactly is the ego?
- The three different egos and their motivators
- How to identify which among the three egos you are acting from
- How to manage and master your ego
Here are a few highlights!
[02:43] Christie: The ego really is just that unconscious brain. And so, when we start to learn our unconscious behaviors, we can then learn why we're doing what we do.
[09:37] Christie: When we overuse our strength, they do turn into these weaknesses that then start to hold us back just as much as over caring means that you can be too selfless, that you're actually becoming a victim in your own circumstance.
[15:28] Christie: It's great to follow the leader. It's great to want your team to follow you. But if you're just dictating, telling people what to do, and expecting them to follow, you're actually killing everybody else's ability to have better ideas, to be innovative, to be creative, to really show up, and maximize the reason you hired him to begin with.
[19:53] Christie: Part of it is knowing how to have boundaries for ourselves, knowing when to say no, knowing when to hold our integrity and speak our truth, knowing when to just admit when we're wrong and say, I'm sorry. The ego controls all those things. And when we're not in our best self, we're not able to do any of that.

Let’s be real: You will always have an ego. The way to get to the next level is to master it so that you can lead, create, and live consciously.
Remember, you're never stuck the way you are.
